Taking amazing courses online is usually a smooth process. But then there are those times that things just don’t seem to work and you need to start fresh. Cleaning out your browser’s cache ensures that your device has the latest course content and that your browser isn’t accessing outdated or invalid files.

Here’s a rundown of how to clear the cache of each major browser. Keep in mind that these steps may change as new browser versions are released. Check the linked sites for the latest information.

Desktop Browsers

Google Chrome

Select the More icon in the upper-right corner. Click More tools and then Clear browsing data. At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time. Make sure the Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files are selected, then click Clear data. For more information, check the Google support site.

Mozilla Firefox

Click the History icon, then select History > Clear Recent History. Select the time period you want to clear the cache for (select Everything if you want to completely clear the cache) and click Clear Now. For additional options and settings, see Mozilla support.

Apple Safari

Select Safari > Clear History. Select how far back you want to clear your history and click Clear History. If you have other devices connected to your iCloud account, this will clear the history for those devices as well. Click here for Apple’s official instructions.

Microsoft Edge

Select Favorites > History. Select the types of data you’d like to clear and click Clear. You may need to take additional steps if you also store your browsing data in the cloud. Click here for more information.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

Select Tools > Safety > Delete browsing history. Choose the types of data or files you want to remove from your PC, and then click Delete. If you’re working with an older version of the browser, these steps may vary. Click here for more information.

Mobile Browsers

Google Chrome

Open the Chrome app and select the More icon. Select History and then Clear browsing data. Select the categories you’d like to clear and select Clear Browsing Data. For more information, check the Google support site.
